Adele sukses kembali menggebrak dunia musik dengan single terbarunya bertajuk "Hello". Di waktu yang bersamaan, Adele juga merilis videoklip dari lagu tersebut yang langsung memecahkan rekor ditonton lebih dari 25 juta kali hanya dalam waktu 24 jam.
Videoklip Hello yang disutradarai oleh Xavier Dolan pun menjadi perbincangan hingga dibuatkan meme. Di videoklip bernuansa hitam putih itu terlihat Adele menggunakan telepon genggam berbentuk flip tenar di era 90'an yang dianggap jadul. "(Videoklip) Itu bukan hanya sekadar hadirnya Adele kembali. Itu juga menjadi tanda kembalinya lagi telepon genggam flip juga," begitu bunyi salah satu lelucon di media sosial. Lainnya menuliskan, "Telepon genggam flip, Adele? Coba jelaskan lewat kicauanmu."

Lelucon tersebut rupanya membuat sang sutradara Xavier Dolan geram. Ia pun membongkar kisah dibalik videoklip Hello milik Adele yang dianggap tak sesuai dengan kenyataan sekarang ini. Bagi Dolan, semua yang ada videoklip itu harus berhubungan masa lalu.
"Aku sudah melihat banyak GIF di Twitter, aku berpikir hal itu tidak masalah. Jika kamu melihat ada iPhone atau sebuah mobil Toyota di video, benda-benda itu akan membuat kami keluar dari cerita dan aku merasa seperti membuat iklan komersil," kata Dolan dilansir laman Billboard, Senin (26/10/2015).
"Itu adalah elemen di masa lalu yang sangat penting. Kami sudah mengidentifikasi soal Samsung atau pun AE9 atau apapun bentuk telepon genggam flip. Saat aku mendengar lagu tersebut aku melihat dengan jelas ceritanya, ide menggunakan telepon dan menghubungi masa lalumu," lanjutnya.
Xavier Dolan juga menjelaskan kalau ia sama sekali tak pernah mengambil gambar telepon genggam atau mobil modern. "Benda-benda itu seperti sudah ditanamkan dalam kehidupan kita dan ketika kamu melihatnya di videoklip itu, kamu merasa ada di kehidupan nyata bukan melihat Adele di masa lalu," pungkasnya.
